Quick-acting roller shutters and flexible loading technology to optimise the flow of materials

In the "Industrial" sector, Novoferm is focusing on optimising internal flows of materials by developing new, and improving existing quick-acting roller shutters, loading units, operators and control systems. With the aim of providing cost-efficient support to internal logistics processes - quickly, flexibly and efficiently, with permanent operational reliability and high levels of user comfort.
NovoSpeed Alu: Quick-acting aluminium roller shutter
The NovoSpeed Alu quick-acting roller shutter meets the requirements of two doors in one. With an opening speed up to 2.0 m/sec., which is more often associated with PVC roller shutters, the sturdy external door made of aluminium is also superbly resistant to wind loads while at the same time offering excellent heat insulation and protection against burglars. Just one such door can be used, for example, as a cost-efficient solution for highly-frequented accesses to the outside which, until now, were fitted with a PVC roller shutter for ongoing operations and an additional weather-resistant and burglar-proof external door for use outside production times. The strong, maintenance-free extension springs integrated into the side door frame and the frequency inversion technology used in the operator guarantee reliable operation and smooth, comfortable motion in spite of the door's high running speed. An integrated light curtain prevents the door from closing when it is blocked, thus offering the highest levels of protection against damages.
NovoSpeed Flex: Quick-acting membrane roller shutter
NovoSpeed Flex is a quick-acting membrane roller shutter that represents a completely new development by Novoferm. The internal door, which can measure up to 20 square metres, opens virtually without any noise or vibration at a speed of 2.0 m/sec. The NovoSpeed Flex door is optionally available with hard-edge or flex-edge bottom profile and has a self-repair function in two directions: The door automatically hooks back into its guide rails after collisions both in the direction of passage and when being raised vertically, for example using the lift on a forklift truck. Novoferm has further enhanced the superb functions of the membrane door by adding an innovative design with numerous colour and transparency combinations. An enhanced model with special lower door leaf edge and mechanical emergency unlocking is available under the name NovoSpeed Flex Retail for supermarkets.
Loading units: Flexibility, comfort, cost efficiency
Novoferm's loading units generally consist of a dock leveller and/or loading ramp, door and door seal, each of which can be individually combined to suit the respective requirements and local conditions. Novoferm will be presenting an example of a loading unit displaying numerous innovations in detail at BAU 2009 with special focus on flexibility - getting as many different types of trucks with differing widths, heights and sills comfortably loaded and unloaded within a short space of time - and cost efficiency in the sense of simple installation, sturdy construction and excellent heat insulation.
The new NovoDock loading ramp forms the core of the solution. Sturdily built with a self-supporting frame, it is fitted with two hydraulic deck and one lip cylinders. The feed mechanism on roller bearings enables the telescopic lip to be matched infinitely and therefore to the exact millimetre to the truck loading area. A Thermo 45 sectional door is used. With its double-walled steel sandwich construction and 45 mm thick CFC-free polyurethane rigid foam insulation, the door offers excellent heat insulation, thus saving energy and operating costs. At the same time, the door has a flexible track system, which is bolted rather than welded to ensure quick and easy assembly, even in difficult installation conditions. A low headroom rail system is a new option that is now available.
The system is complemented by the NovoSeal door seal, which also represents a new development. The telescopic front end and flexible roof structure are firmly and permanently fixed by an aluminium frame structure and hinged brackets made of hot dip galvanized steel. The door seal therefore guarantees lastingly reliable protection against the weather at low maintenance and repair costs, even if it is being constantly hit by trucks driving off at an angle.
Modular control: Novo I-Vision
Automatic operators represent the state of technology nowadays. As a result, garage doors, dock levellers, loading ramps or lighting systems frequently come complete with numerous switch boxes, buttons and dials that are sometimes clearly labelled, sometimes not. Novoferm now offers a universal control system for various components in the shape of its Novo I-Vision, a modular-design control unit. Depending on the model, one control unit can in future centrally control one or several doors or combinations of doors and loading ramps. Furthermore, standard interfaces offer the option of linking or expanding the solution to include plug-and-play modules; an infrared interface for a service tool has also been integrated. As such, Novoferm will be presenting a next-generation control system offering greatly enhanced operating safety and comfort at BAU 2009.
