Sliding fire and smokeproof doors

Novoferm fire seals are self closing and prevent fire penetrating through wall openings. All models are officially tested as per DIN 4102 and have been issued general building code approval by Deutsches Institut für Bautechnik (DIBt) in Berlin.

Novoferm sliding fire doors are suitable for low headers or butt ceiling installation. They offer outstanding operational performance and look good with their smooth surface finish. A free swing function is optionally available.

The modular design is easy to transport and assemble, so even large door sizes are possible.

Why opt for sliding fire doors made by Novoferm?

Numerous features – building code approved, of course – enable enhancement of the single and double sliding fire door units to suit the specific property.

A hold open system with release mechanism, for example, can keep the doors mainly open and only close them reliably in the event of fire.

The free swing function enables the doors to be fixed in any position. Pass doors enable convenient passage when the door is closed.

Novoferm is working hard to further improve its combined fire and smokeproofing. Floor structure permitting, for example, sills are not necessary in the entire opening and storage area.

Both the sliding door panels and the pass doors can be fitted with T30 or T90 fire resistant glazing. Single leaf T90 doors are also available in stainless steel finish.

Novoferm offers approved inlet/outlet and ceiling flaps.

When the door is open, they seal off the side and ceiling openings – making the door invisible.

Our fire seals are officially tested to DIN regulations and have been issued general building code approval by Deutsches Institut für Bautechnik (DIBt) in Berlin. This proof of compliance is noted on the embossed boilerplate, together with identification of the model, approval number, manufacturer and year of manufacture.

Steel sliding doors without technical approval can be equipped with fireproofing in special instances, albeit without approval.

Doors are supplied in individual segments for ease of transportation. We are authorized to perform all fire protection and accident prevention tests and inspections, and can assume responsibility for looking after all of your doors and seals.

Sliding doors: the details

Technical description

Approval:
All models are officially tested as per DIN 4102 and have been issued general building code approval by Deutsches Institut für Bautechnik (DIBt) in Berlin.

Installation:
The wall that is going to accommodate the fire seal must comply with the approval requirements, as must the fastening of the seal. The floor in the door area must be non-flammable (A1).

Note:
If the storage area of a sliding door is clad on site, inspection openings must be provided to enable maintenance.

Header designs:

Standard model for normal headers requires about 250 mm headroom height
Customized models for ceiling installation with low headers require at least 125 mm headroom height
Header panel for butt ceiling installation is 115 mm high

Door panel:
Made of 0.75 mm galvanized and specially machined thin sheet metal with fireproof insulation. Door panel made of individual full-height units joined together, with smooth surface finish achieved by bonding the sheet metal jacket with the fireproof insulation (supplied as individual panels).

Seal:
On three sides, with labyrinth profiles.

Hardware:
Tubular track system at the top with double pairs of rollers, dimensions appropriate for the weight of the panel to ensure the door runs smoothly, with continuous fastening bracket complete with hydraulic damper, closing weight in galvanized casing, floor guide, and handle and recessed grip (also available in stainless steel).

Closing brake (radial damper):
Controls the closing speed, infinitely adjustable between 0.08 and 0.2 m/sec.

Approved variant / Special equipment

Hold open system – Hold open and release mechanism:
For doors that have to mainly remain open, consisting of:
Fire detectors (number as specified in the approval), hold open magnet, power pack, reset and release key (24 V DC operation). The door closes automatically in the event of fire, and otherwise by pressing the release key.

Note:
Once installed, owners must ensure at their own expense that the hold open system is approved and thereafter inspected at regular intervals by a certified expert (as per confirmation of approval of the hold open system). We offer appropriate service agreements.

T30 or T90 pass door (as per approval), and smokeproof pass door with special sealing profiles, positioned between two units in the door panel, standard without floor sill, max. clear passage of pass door: 1000 x 2000 mm.
A sill-free pass door may only be installed if the clear passage is at least 1875 mm and the sliding door height at least 2100 mm. Hardware: 2x three-part hinges with ball bearings, 1 door closer as per EN 1154, 1 mortice lock as per DIN 18250 with drawback-latch for profile cylinder, optional panic function, stainless steel handle set with short plates (optional rosette plates).

Hook lock:
To secure the door when closed, with spring-mounted catch, key operated, designed for profile cylinders.

Flush inlet panel at the side:
For single leaf doors: no rebate on the door inlet side, counterweight deflected.

Butt ceiling installation:
With header panel (115 mm high).

Electrical operator:
Surface mounted keypad to “Open” the door with dead man control. The door is closed by pressing the release key on the hold open system (recommended for larger doors if manual opening requires quite a lot of force). The operator is deactivated in the event of fire and the door is automatically closed.

Note:

Owners must arrange at their own expense for experts to perform the necessary inspections of doors with electrical operators (as per rules governing power operated doors).

Fire resistant glazing (dimensions as per approval):

In one or more panel sections: Standard glazing 270 x 630 mm, customized glazing up to 325 x 1100 mm, necessary frieze width on 3 sides of each panel section: 190 mm, pedestal height: 1150 mm.
In pass doors (without floor sill): T30/T90 standard glazing 460 x 610 mm

Optionally primed, coated, edge profile galvanized

Features

Safety braking strip for sliding fire doors

Available only from Novoferm: Anti pinch protection is finally available.

Enhanced safety and tangible protection against property damage and injury thanks to self-closing sliding fire doors. In the event of fire, sliding fire doors must close automatically,

which poses the risk of people or objects becoming trapped or crushed. The new mechanical safety braking strip made by Novoferm protects against this risk by reducing the closing force to a level that is even lower than that specified by EN 12453.

The “emergency brake” for sliding fire doors made by Novoferm
Sliding fire doors have to shut automatically to ensure active fire protection and comply with the law. If someone or something is in the way when a heavy door is closing, injuries and damages may occur.

Novoferm has successfully closed this safety gap – which was underestimated for a long time – with its new safety braking strip for sliding fire doors. This brake is purely mechanical and provides genuine protection from people or things getting trapped and injured or damaged.

If the brake is activated, the braking force subsides automatically after a brief period and the door can be moved again. Once the area has been cleared, the door closes automatically and independently of course.

Collision brake
The mechanical safety braking strip on the sliding fire door compensates – even in a power failure.

Automatic release
The braking function activates itself. Once the sliding fire door has come to a halt, the brake disengages and the door can be moved again.

Free swing function for sliding fire doors

Using force to open doors is a thing of the past – now all it takes is light pressure. The innovative free swing function enables sliding fire doors to be moved to any position with just light pressure. The free swing function can also be retrofitted on T30 and T90 sliding doors (App. no. Z-6.20-2079/2080).

Thanks to their free swing function, sliding fire doors only need to be lightly pushed to move virtually on their own. They can be opened to any position.
Sliding fire doors are indispensable in industrial or commercial buildings. They reliably seal off fire sections without inhibiting internal logistics processes. Previously, however, their heavy weight and specified automatic closing mechanism made sliding fire doors hard to move.

This has now changed with the optional free swing function. From now on, sliding doors made by Novoferm can be moved without the need for force once they have been initially opened – they glide open easily. And: the doors can be partially opened or closed as well – just as needed. The requisite self-closing mechanism in the event of fire is still guaranteed.

The free swing function means you can slide the door to any position you need.

For single or double doors
The free swing function is approved for single or double door units up to a maximum size of 8500 x 6000 mm – and can easily be retrofitted.

Ceiling flaps

Ceiling flap for cladding the track

The horizontally suspended ceiling flap is fixed at two suspension points with pivot bearings and held closed by two magnets.

The flap is closed manually.

The opening process (using gravity) is performed at reduced speed by two damping cylinders at an extension speed of about 0.04 m/sec.

The upright wall flap is fixed statically and dynamically in place by a ball bearing in the upper section of the pivoting mechanism and by a polyamide bushing in the lower section, together with a bearing bolt plugged into the floor, and held closed by magnets. The flap is closed manually; a spring mechanism opens the storage area.
