THE GATEWAY TO THE WORLD OF DATA CENTRES
OUR SOLUTION FOR EUROPE
NOVOFERM STEEL DOORS FOR ACCESS CONTROL, FIRE, SMOKE AND BURGLARY PROTECTION
STEEL DOORS FOR DATA CENTRES
Data centres are essential to the functioning of our modern digital society. That is why the highest security standards apply here, particularly with regard to fire protection and access control. With the NovoPorta Premio, Novoferm offers a door system that not only stands for the highest quality but also holds European certification.
Requirements and solutions
THE HEART OF DIGITALISATION: THE DATA CENTRE
HIGH-TECH REQUIRES HIGH-LEVEL SECURITY
Data centres form the backbone of our modern infrastructure and are crucial for the storage, processing and exchange of data. A growing number of businesses, public authorities and other organisations rely on digital applications, and more and more aspects of our lives depend on the smooth flow of data. The failure of a data centre would therefore have serious consequences. That is why extremely strict security requirements apply.
In addition to the dual configuration of critical infrastructure such as cooling or power supply – designed to maintain functionality in the event of a failure – the security features of the doors also play a vital role. They must ensure fire and smoke protection and enable secure access control.
HOW TO FIND THE RIGHT DOORS FOR YOUR DATA CENTRE
NOVOFERM IS HAPPY TO ADVISE YOU
Data centre planners and operators can rely on our professional expertise. We are on hand to advise you and find the right solutions for your specific projects. In doing so, we also tackle complex challenges, such as those arising from raised floors where these are present. These pose particular fire safety requirements and necessitate special certification.
Novoferm is one of the leading suppliers of doors for the commercial and industrial sectors. With our many years of experience in the field of fire protection and security doors, we possess comprehensive expertise in this area. We offer products that meet the latest technological standards and are, of course, tested in accordance with European standards.
MODERN DOOR SYSTEMS PROTECT YOUR DATA
PROTECTED AGAINST FIRE, SMOKE AND UNAUTHORISED ACCESS
The security requirements for data centres are extremely high. Here, sensitive technologies are used to process vast amounts of data that underpin many essential applications. Protecting these centres is a highly complex task, involving collaboration between experts from a wide range of fields, including Novoferm as a specialist in steel doors.
Doors prove to be key components in security architecture, particularly when it comes to protection against fire, smoke or unauthorised access. Smoke and fire-resistant doors, as well as sophisticated security door technology including modern access control systems, make an indispensable contribution to trouble-free operation, as these risks rank among the greatest threats alongside water damage or failures in cooling and power systems.
FIRE AND SMOKE PROTECTION
Data centres themselves usually have their own automatic fire-extinguishing systems, but fires can also spread from adjoining rooms or from directly adjacent buildings. Smoke alone can damage IT components due to its corrosive effect. Raised floors, in which cables are laid or which are used for ventilation or air conditioning, also present a particular structural challenge. Different fire safety requirements apply depending on their installation height.
In general, walls, floors and ceilings must be constructed to be (highly) fire-retardant or fire-resistant. The fire and smoke protection doors installed must also comply with these resistance classes.
Novoferm offers doors with tested and approved fire and smoke protection properties up to EI2 90.
ACCESS CONTROL AND SECURITY
Another important security consideration is access.
In most cases, several parties rent computing capacity within a single centre. It is therefore necessary to regulate who is permitted to enter which areas. Unauthorised persons must generally be denied access. To this end, Novoferm offers a wide range of locking systems that can be easily integrated with the on-site access control system.
Whether single or high-security multi-point locks as motorised locks or as handle-lock systems with an externally mounted handle that can be electrically engaged, as well as an emergency exit opener concealed within the door leaf, many variants are available. If required, these can be optionally fitted with a burglary resistance rating up to RC 4.
OUR SPECIALITY – CUSTOM SIZES
The demand for computing capacity is rising and will continue to grow in the future. As this demand grows, so do the server cabinets. It is precisely for these applications that we manufacture custom-sized single-door units up to 1,500 x 3,000 mm and double-door units up to 3,000 x 3,000 mm.
Naturally, these oversized doors are also tested for all necessary properties, such as fire, smoke and burglary protection.
For raised door element installation positions on raised floors, we offer specially adapted designs and threshold variants.
THE FIRE DOOR FOR ALL REQUIREMENTS
NOVOPORTA PREMIO
With its European Technical Assessment (ETA), the NovoPorta Premio is the steel door range for Europe. Its wide variety of options and consistently uniform appearance are particularly appealing in commercial construction. With its attractive deep rebate and many other design features, it looks great in any setting.
Whether as an EI2 30, EI2 60 or EI2 90 fire-rated, sound-insulated, multi-purpose or security door – the Premio offers all options. If doors are installed at a so-called greater height (> 500 mm) above floor level, the pressure conditions acting on the door in the event of a fire change, thereby placing particularly high demands on the door construction.
In this elevated installation position, the overpressure in the fire chamber is set to 8.5 pascals (Pa) at the threshold area of the door. The pressure then increases by a further 8.5 Pa per metre of height, meaning that in the upper section of a 3,000 mm high door, the pressure is approximately 34 Pa. These test criteria are regulated in EN 1363-1, Section 5.2.
GENERATION OF STEEL DOORS FOR DATA CENTRES IN EUROPE
NovoPorta Premio fire-rated doors have been developed in accordance with the European product standard EN 16034 for doors with fire-rated and/or smoke-controlled properties. At present, EN 16034 applies only to doors for external use. For internal doors, the standard must first be listed in the Official Journal of the European Commission.
For this reason, Novoferm is the first manufacturer of sheet steel fire-rated doors to have obtained a European Technical Assessment (ETA). This is currently the official certification for steel interior doors with fire protection in all countries within the EOTA organisation and also includes the CE marking based on it.
THE BENEFITS OF USING STEEL
EFFICIENT USE OF MATERIALS
Steel offers high strength even in very delicate designs. This is due, on the one hand, to its high modulus of elasticity and, on the other, to the fact that steel can be welded. This means that highly durable products can be manufactured using a comparatively small amount of material.
LONG SERVICE LIFE
Thanks to their excellent durability, steel systems remain in use for a long time. This significantly reduces the material and energy consumption that would otherwise be incurred by replacement.
DOOR FITTINGS
This ensures that designers can find the right door for every situation:
Novoferm offers a wide range of options for its steel doors, allowing them to be adapted to various applications and to meet all relevant safety requirements. For example, a fire door must be self-closing, yet escape routes must not be blocked; at the same time, depending on the location, they must be secured against unauthorised opening.
With our door closers, locks, swing door operators, cable glands and emergency door openers, we provide technical security for every situation.
