The latest generation of Novoferm control units offers a programmable stop at half height as standard. Together with the automatic closing function, this enables considerable energy savings to be achieved.

When the door is open, a light curtain offers maximum safety, but there are also options that combine safety and control, such as motion sensors.

Functionality

WHAT IS A SPEEDROLLER?

Novoferm SpeedRollers are particularly fast-running electrically driven doors. The fast opening and closing, without obstructing traffic, ensures that draughts have no chance. This has numerous advantages for you:

CONSTRUCTION


[1] The door curtain consists of a synthetic fabric with polyester reinforcement.

When opening, the curtain is rolled up on the shaft [2] above the door opening.

[3] The sturdy tracks are made of sendzimir galvanised steel profiles. The integrated side seals are specially adapted to the respective application and ensure draught-free guidance of the door curtain. The tracks, shaft and brackets form a stable pre-assembled construction.

[4] The closing edge of the door curtain consists of either a fixed HardEdge or a flexible FlexEdge end strip. Various options are available for reinforcing the door curtain.

[5] Viewing windows or transparent sections are also possible. Each option has its own advantages.

[6] CONTROL/OPERATION
The door is equipped with control buttons (up/stop/down) as standard. The control system offers numerous functions, for example:

  • Setting opening time, opening height and maintenance height, stop at half height, etc.
  • Numerous options are available for controlling the SpeedRoller, such as radar motion detectors, remote control, traffic lights, interlock control and many more.

[7] DRIVE
Each SpeedRoller is driven directly by an electric geared motor. The drive can be located on the left or right.

Depending on your requirements and ratios, we will create the most suitable combination of drive and control for you so that you can always rely on an optimally functioning SpeedRoller.

SAFETY
Novoferm SpeedRollers are secured as standard with a roll-off protection and a safety light barrier. This fully secures the passageway up to a height of 2,500 mm.

HOW DOES A SPEEDROLLER WORK?

The following illustration shows how energy is lost through air currents in a conventional door [A], while the SpeedRoller from Novoferm [B] has already closed again before such air currents occur.

  • The indoor temperature in most buildings is around 19 °C.
  • Both doors open at the same time:

  • A conventional sectional door (A) runs at approx. 0.15-0.18 m/s.
    Our high-speed doors (B) Prime and Strong run at 1.5 m/s, XF at 2.2 m/s,
    ZIP at 2.0 m/s and Strong Outdoor at 1.8 m/s
  • The forklift B can already leave the hall.

  • The conventional door [A] opens slowly, cold air can flow into the hall at ground level, while warm air escapes outside at height.
  • The SpeedRoller [B] is already closed again before this air flow can materialise.

  • The conventional door [A] closes slowly, the air flow is still reducing the internal temperature.
  • Only now, after a long wait, can forklift truck A leave the hall.

THE HEAT LOSS THROUGH AN OPEN DOOR IS ALWAYS MANY TIMES GREATER THAN THAT THROUGH HEAT CONDUCTION OR LEAKS IN A CLOSED DOOR.

Research has shown that the temperature in a building or room with an open door drops very quickly, depending on the outside temperature and the type of building. This means that the inside temperature drops much less when the door is only open for a short time. Furthermore, there are far fewer draughts if the door closes again quickly.

Studies by the Technical University of Munich have shown that by using high-speed doors and avoiding long opening times, the additional heating requirement
can be reduced by up to 30 %!

Even greater savings can be achieved by installing an airlock; the indoor climate can be improved by up to 90 %.

FREQUENCY-CONTROLLED DRIVE

A control unit with a frequency regulator ensures that the door operator runs at an optimum speed. The movement of the curtain starts slowly. It then accelerates rapidly before decelerating again in a controlled manner.

Avoiding strong accelerations and decelerations extends the service life of the door. In heavy traffic, this is the ideal option for getting the most out of your SpeedRoller.

SAFETY

HARDEDGE ODER FLEXEDGE?

A HardEdge closing edge is rigid and firm and can withstand high wind pressures. A FlexEdge closing edge is the better choice for a smaller door that is continuously passed by people or sensitive goods.

An unintentional collision with the door curtain is completely painless with a FlexEdge closing edge, and there is no risk of damage to sensitive objects.

VERSIONS FOR THE FOOD INDUSTRY

In the food industry, dirt accumulation must be prevented at all costs.

It must be possible to clean everything quickly and easily, for example with a high-pressure cleaner. Doors with stainless steel tracks, encapsulated hinges and special sealing profiles are available for this purpose.

This prevents dirt from accumulating in the hinges and brush seals.
