Tips & tricks for garage doors

ROLLTOR GARAGE

THE ADVANTAGES AND DISADVANTAGES COMPARED

Today, you have an enormously wide choice when it comes to doors for your garage. The market caters for numerous material requirements and almost every conceivable colour. There are also options for customising the look of your garage door. At the very beginning, however, you have to decide what type of door you want or need.

This is where things get a little tricky, because not every type of door is suitable for every garage. Certain garage doors simply don't make sense for some parking spaces. Andre may have particular potential there. The roller garage door is a design that can be used to comparatively frequent advantage. You can read about its strengths and weaknesses, installation tips and other key information about roller garage doors here!

ROLLER GARAGE DOORS ARE PARTICULARLY SUITABLE FOR THIS

  • Roller shutters can be installed in most garages. They require relatively little space behind the garage lintel and are also comparatively inexpensive.
  • They are particularly suitable for low garages, as they hardly take up any space when open or rolled up. The clearance height can be fully utilised.
  • In addition, roller garage doors can even close perfectly on uneven floors thanks to their louvres that are mounted on top of each other so that they can move.
  • Roller garage doors are also available in all standard widths: for small openings of just over two metres, for example, up to very wide garage entrances of more than five metres.
  • You can also get roller garage doors with different equipment: Roller garage doors with remote control or without, smart home functions, additional insulation, etc.
  • Last but not least, roller garage doors are timelessly chic thanks to their clean look and fine slat design.

THAT SPEAKS AGAINST A ROLLER GARAGE DOOR

  • Even roller shutters are not ideal for use everywhere: If there is very little space behind the garage lintel, rolling up can be hindered.
  • Furthermore, a roller garage door is somewhat less effective than its competitors when it comes to burglary protection. Such doors are less convenient to lock. The opening mechanism also offers less resistance. Plastic variants are even relatively easy to break through.
  • Anyone looking for a roller garage door with a door will unfortunately not find what they are looking for. Due to the design with the very narrow slats, it is not possible to integrate a wicket door.

IS THERE ALSO A ROLLER GARAGE DOOR WITH A DOOR?

Unfortunately, a door cannot be integrated into a roller shutter door. At least not directly into the opening door - as is the case with sectional doors or up-and-over doors.

However, there are special roller garage doors with a door. In this case, the wicket door is installed next to the roller element in an additional lightweight wall. The latter is designed to match the appearance of the roller door, but cannot be rolled up.

Probably the best alternative to the roller shutter door is the sectional door. This type of door eliminates all the disadvantages and offers many of the advantages mentioned above. Sectional doors also consist of individual slats or sections. However, these are larger, which makes it possible to integrate a door. The sectional door is not rolled up, but runs on a track close to the garage ceiling. The system is therefore also very space-saving. Furthermore, the sections are often made of metal and the doors are equipped with highly pressure-resistant motors, which makes them extremely safe.
