WHEN THE POWER SUDDENLY FAILS

Novoferm offers two solutions for garage doors
Electric garage doors are popular. But what happens if you need to drive away quickly and the power fails? In view of the energy crisis, thoughts about possible power cuts are currently more prevalent. Novoferm has two tried and tested solutions to ensure that the automated sectional door can be opened at any time, even without electricity: either with an emergency release or with a battery-powered operator.

Manual quick release
Not every garage has an additional side or rear door so that the electric garage door can be opened manually from the inside without motor power in the event of a power failure. For garages without separate access, an emergency release should therefore be provided so that the garage can be accessed at any time in an emergency.

With the "Extra 315" emergency release from Novoferm, the garage door can be quickly unlocked from the outside at any time and easily operated by hand. "An emergency release is extremely practical if the electric door operator does not work, for example in the event of a power failure or a defective motor," explains André Weyer, Product Manager at Novoferm. "Without an emergency release, on the other hand, the door has to be broken open, which leads to unnecessary and expensive damage."

Key in and off you go
In an emergency, a key is simply inserted into the special unlocking cylinder from the outside. A short, strong pull on the cord triggers the internal emergency release and mechanically disengages the electric operator. The door can then be opened effortlessly by hand. To do this, first push the top slat slightly inwards and then push the door upwards.

Uncomplicated installation
Specialist fitters can install the emergency release in just a few minutes. They simply fit a profile half cylinder in the upper section of the door leaf - either at the side or in the centre of the door, depending on the operator type - and tie the emergency cord to the internal emergency release cable. The "Extra 315" emergency release is suitable for Novoferm sectional doors of type ISO 20, ISO 45 and ISO 70 and can also be retrofitted to existing garage doors.

Protection through battery back-up
Another option is a powerful rechargeable battery that takes over the power supply to the door operator. Novoferm has developed the battery-operated Novomatic 423 Accu operator primarily for garages without a power connection. However, it is also ideal as a so-called battery back-up. In this case, the garage door operator is conventionally connected to the domestic power supply. The battery merely serves as a buffer and ensures an uninterrupted power supply. In this way, the door can be raised and lowered without any problems even in the event of a power failure - a particularly convenient solution for garage users.

Independent thanks to solar energy
Charging the battery from the sun is not only environmentally friendly, it also offers independence from the power supply. The Novomatic 423 Accu can be extended with a solar module, which is mounted on the garage roof or on the side wall of the garage. The battery can also be operated as a purely solar solution, which not only saves on the replacement battery and reduces electricity costs, but also makes garage users self-sufficient overall.
